Princess Luna pressed her small hands against the lighthouse window as the crystal tumbled down, down, down the rocky cliff. The precious stone that guided evening ships bounced from ledge to ledge, finally disappearing into the tide pools below. Without it, the merchant boats would never find their way to shore in the darkness.
Luna wrapped her blue cloak tight and picked up her glowing wand. The stone steps spiraling down the outside of the tower felt cold under her boots. Down, down, down she climbed, just as the crystal had fallen.
The salty spray from the waves below tickled her nose. Luna's small hands gripped the wand carefully—big objects always slipped from her fingers, but the slender wand fit perfectly. Its gentle light danced across the wet rocks as she searched.
Behind a cluster of barnacle-covered rocks, Luna discovered six tiny shore crabs. They scuttled back and forth, waving their little claws frantically. The lighthouse crystal sat wedged in a narrow crevice between two boulders, and underneath it, Luna could see something moving.
Carefully, Luna slipped her fingers into the gap beside the crystal. The baby crabs felt smooth and cool against her palm as she scooped them out, one by one. Their parents clicked joyfully, dancing sideways across the rocks.
Luna placed the crystal back in its special holder at the top of the lighthouse. Immediately, a bright beam swept across the dark water. The last ship's lights twinkled as it docked.
